How my journey began
I started practicing yoga in my early 20s to try to get in my body — and even this was something that I was seeking before I knew what it meant…
Then teachers started popping up in every part of my life, pulling me into philosophy, mindfulness, religion…eventually the other aspects of the practice of yoga began to do their work in opening me into myself.
It is my deepest wish that my learnings might be of service to others, not in any way to try to do the work for any other individual, but to be something of a sherpa for those sincerely invested in rediscovering their own path.

BIO
A conscientious student of yoga since 1998, Joy has been teaching since 2001. Joy’s since completed her 200- and 500-hr certifications through Yoga Source in Richmond, VA and Boston Yoga School in MA. With a background rooted in the sciences, Joy’s teaching emphasizes an observer’s inquisitive awareness and cultivation of presence in postures both on and off the mat.
Joy’s teaching has been inspired by senior teachers in Ashtanga, Iyengar, Tantra, Yin yoga, meditation and mindfulness, somatic movement and bodywork and she is blessed to have studied with a breadth of teachers globally who have each transmitted powerful learnings, much of which is in the ever present work of integration. Joy is deeply grateful for the amazing circle of fellow students, seekers and friends, who provide the gift of open-heartedness, unmasked presence and clear reflections. Her own current practice is centered on Tantric Hatha yoga.
In addition to her yoga studies, Joy holds bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in Chemistry, has worked extensively for global healthcare companies that have taken her all over the world to live and work and she currently spends her working days bringing mindfulness into the workplace— where the blending of the personal and professional continues to be a lifelong intention to bring her work on the cushion and mat into every other area of her life.
